Firstly the WS/CR situation is not even remotely comparable to yours which even involved physically moving your wife's person off a chair.
There was nothing satisfactory about the situation, the outcome, or any OTHER possible outcome. Nothing would have made it satisfactory. If his own buddies dragged him out of the bar, that is vindication most of us can only dream of! And you're still not satisfied?
Yea - and hitting people for words you don't like is one of them.
I don't think it was staged.
It’s Hollywood, anything is possible.

Which is why I didn't hit him. I said, "I know we handled it correctly." If you can stand there while a drunken college boy calls your lovely and beloved 45 year-old (at the time... she's still lovely and beloved, but a bit older now) wife a "dried up old bitch" along with a bunch of other worse and more obscene comments, shouted, and not respond (and remember... I did not)... and NOT regret it.. .well.... you're a different person than I am. Sometimes, words are enough to harm people for a long time. This happened fifteen years ago. I'm sure he doesn't remember it, but my wife sure does. So do I. I wish he remembered it.
Listen cupcake, whether it's a misdemeanor or felony is not relevant. You are the one who chose to plant your flag on the mountain of justifying Smith's actions, you picked a damn fool mountain to plant it on.
As to word-twisting, there was none. The illustration I provided was to demonstrate the logical conclusion of actions you consider justifiable. Thankfully the criminal code differs from your position.
Where to start? I never attempted to justify his actions. I just pointed out that this is a misdemeanor offense. IOW, scooter, it is taken lightly. That was I. Response to someone who said he should forfeit his award.
There was no flag planting on my part.
You said this: He insulted another man's wife and paid for it.
So in your world, not only are "insults" (of some indefinite standard) to be "paid for" in some way, but you are also the arbiter of what form said "payment" is acceptable. If that's not a classic blueprint to mob justice, I don't know what is. In any case, everything you wrote here sure sounds like you're a-okay with Smith's actions.
As Hollywood sees itself the standard bearer of "acceptable conduct" my opinion is that it's only fitting "zero tolerance" for assault and battery be put on full display by stripping Smith of his award thus sending a message to a society which has been showing disturbingly higher levels of tolerance for lawless behavior.
It's a stage, they're actors. End of story.Say, if they did more slappin' @ each others faces, then maybe -- maybe -- I'd watch the friggin' things.
It's a stage, they're actors. End of story.
Smith didn't plan to slap him, his hand did it by itself, it just went off. Things happen.Joke funniness is not a legal standard nor is it even relevant. The reasons why Smith's actions are considered criminal conduct in a civil society should be apparent. Physical violence is never an acceptable response to words (this side of credible physical threat). I suggest you think through your position through to its ultimate end before defending the indefensible.
Now, if Alec Baldwin can get in on the action...
I've been holding my tongue. Now, if Alec Baldwin can get in on the action...
