Vinyls

He also doesn't see the importance in using any type of cleaning on his records...

Why would you knock him for that? "Cleaning records is right". "Not cleaning records is right". Most of us who clean records do so due to the fact that we have a low tolerance to pops, crackles and noise. Those of us who use vacuum based RCM's could criticize those who use a sink method or a spin clean. Those who use ultrasonic cleaners might criticise those of us who use a vacuum based RCM that costs a fraction of an ultrasonic machine.
Those who don't clean records probably don't care about things like noise or short lived stylus. I believe in live and let live and whether someone cleans their record or not or uses the word vinyls doesn't raise my stress level one bit.
In all the technically rewarding threads concerning gear tweaking and record cleaning thats posted here, its got to seem odd that this is even worth discussing.

Cleaning records is right. Even at the very least using a dry brush (which he doesn't own).

He does care about his records (or thinks he does), but doesn't see the importance of cleaning them. When I explained different stylus types, alignment, etc he some how got the idea that he wanted a hyperelliptical stylus. I tried explaining to him that would be huge overkill without cleaning your records properly and using it with his low end equipment. I said it more politely though.

He can treat his records however he wants. But I won't let him touch mine or even borrow them.

For you and me we`ve decided its right and for good reason. What I`ve reconciled my self with is some others just don`t care like I do. thats they`re right.

I've worked in a technical field all my life. I love the technical side of my hobbies and am quite an analytical person. I think more people could care less about the theory behind things than those that do.

Nor would I.

I have an extensive LP collection
I have a lot of LPs

I have an extensive vinyl collection
I have a lot of vinyls

A large group of AKers are lining up to whack me one
A large portion of the AK group is lining up to whack me one

:D

Enough with all this vinyls talk.

I went hunting this weekend and got myself 3 deers, plan on getting some fishes this weekend.:D

Then there is the term platter.... something like disc but not as common unless you happen to be a fifties rock group.

When I had a few vinyls they fit it in one box.

Now that I have more, they fill several boxen.

I belong to a group dedicated to 2004-2006 Australian-made Pontiac GTOs. The members are insulting, condescending cretins, who hide behind the anonymity of the internet. The only reason I remain with the group and take their **** is to get the information I need.
I have never felt this way about any other group I belong to. Members of AK should revel in the fact that our group is civil and tolerant of others, no matter what subject or repeat-of-subject is brought up.

Yep...it happens though in every group. I was also in a group for Camaro owners. I think the car club scene is the perfect storm for testosterone release. I consider myself an independent car lover now. Enjoy it better. This type of conversation is no different than the beatniks of old and the cringe worthy words they came up with. Cringe worthy? Not to me but others. Every generation creates it's own language. Hey don't judge my grammar here! lol...I also poke fun at "vinyls". It seems to be one of those things that garners the most posts and interest. :)

If/when someone uses the term "vinyls", everybody knows what the person is talking about....so what the hell difference does it make???!!!

If/when someone uses the phrase "Yo, I be qualified for this job", everbody knows what the person is talking about...so what the hell difference does it make???!!! Please put your money where your mouth is and try saying this on your next job interview and you will find out very quickly what difference it makes.

We all have a right to say whatever we want. We also have a right, if we choose to exercise it, to come across to people as being well spoken and intelligent. People who are neither resent it when people remind them of this little used right.

Well ... as long as you're willing to settle ...

What's fun is on the Aurora boards, the big argument is which is king, the "classic" or second generation ...

I rest my case! Nice car!

Now I am with everyone on the car sites!! I was a member of an F150 group. It was none stop "I'm cutting the mufflers off to make it loud" post. That and " How big of tires can I get away with" And usually there was a insult fest every other day.

The worst thing I encountered with a local car club was the president saying" We are not attending XYZ car show...they didn't treat us right on the last one". Hey I had a lot of fun and met a lot of peeps. Maybe you didn't get the perks you expected??? What I like about this site is that peeps give really good advise. The only thing I would get is "Go see Joe Blow he will do that for you". Next thing i know they have a new free Cam or something. HEY it's a club for sharing information!!!! Peeps on this site recommend great peeps for repairs only after they have exhausted their expertise (or patience...snort). Audiophiles are a different breed....family.

ok ok......
