It makes no difference. But some people enjoy talking about words and the use of language, indulge us.

I would indulge....but this vinyls vs. records/albums/LPs thing has been done to death.

If/when someone uses the phrase "Yo, I be qualified for this job", everbody knows what the person is talking about...so what the hell difference does it make???!!! Please put your money where your mouth is and try saying this on your next job interview and you will find out very quickly what difference it makes.

We all have a right to say whatever we want. We also have a right, if we choose to exercise it, to come across to people as being well spoken and intelligent. People who are neither resent it when people remind them of this little used right.

I don't have to put my money where my mouth is. The example you use is a lame argument --- we are not talking about job interviews. Use of the term vinyls is neither correct nor incorrect, and certainly does not speak to the intelligence or well spoken-ness of the user. If someone wants to use the term vinyls, so be it. Let it go.

I grew up in era where they coined andthe phrase "generation gap" .

As a father that raised three wonderful, productive, polite, and tolerant Millennial children. To their generation I coached sports teams, taught classes, drove them about town, mentored, listened, and tried to understand. They kept me young. Now I get to recruit and hire some of these fine young people as they graduate from universities.

I have to say I disagree with everything you said. The fact that they are buying turntables and records kind of flies in the face of your point, doesn't it??

But when they view things from the past, they see differently than we do. What I mean to say is that most of us in previous generations (even though we rebelled against our parents) we adopted a lot of their ways of thinking. Whereas a lot of millennials have finally said, "no, technology has a replacement for that." I'm not saying they're not smart Bobins. Many millennials are mature and brilliant. But somehow they've taken ownership of the world and made it their own, whereas I feel we were more co-operative in past generations.

Language and the way people use it changes overtime and from generation to generation, personally I'd try to get over it and move on. Some things are worth fighting for, I wouldn't think vinyl vs. vinyls is one of them, but then again English isn't my first language.

By that rationale, some people would think a subject like audio wouldn't be worth discussing or debating. It's not always about being worth fighting for. sometimes, things make you cringe and you don't want laziness eroding our vocab (er, vocabulary)

Vinyl was more of a tongue-in-cheek reference back then (like "listening to the latest vinyl from Bruce Springsteen"), or audio magazine would say that vinyl sales have dropped.

I think though when we hear people saying this topic is bullshit, or complaining about such and such topic being done to death, it lends a negativity to the discussion. Remember newcomers want their voices heard too. And sometimes, long time readers have new viewpoints. So, if anyone wants to discuss drive systems, analog vs digital or whatever "overdone" topic for a 1000th time, they should be welcome to do so. Just skip the thread if you don't like it, right?

It's kinda funny how I have to change my language based on who I'm talking to.

When talking with those who grew up with them, I call them records, LP's or albums. When talking with younger people, I call them vinyl, or vinyl records.

Whadaya mean, "we"? ;-) Does this site not get new members from time to time? I hope so!

I confess that I see a LOT of threads that, from my perspective, have been done to death. But then, I've been arguing this stuff a LOT since 1970.

I just ignore those threads.
