Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable Social Group

Anyone ever heard of this GT-7? h**p://auc.aleado.com/yahoo/lot?auctionID=h419699681 It looks like an early GT-2000 because it doesn't seem to have much in common with the GT-750. I mean the motor is more like an "look-a-like" of the GT-2000 but still different. Platter is smaller and those lifting holes are placed differently closer to the center of the platter. Backside of the platter differs alot too. All looks mysterious to me.

Wow, almost identical to a GT-2000. Any ideas on "FG out"?

Not sure if the tonearm is the same length as "the normal YA-39" as we know it. It reads YA-39 on the top but the foot seems to sit closer to the platter in some strange way. Even the counter weight adjustment tube looks different.

FG out might be some output for a strobe device to clock the speed I think. Normally FG stands for Frequency Generator or Generated. FG servo means that a chrystall's high frequency (f.ex 12MHz) is divided down to a low frequency (f.ex 50Hz) that is then compared from the pulses coming out from the detector inside the motor assembly. Then there is some sort of PLL (Phase Locked Loop) that tries to always keep the same phase between the generated frequency and the speedpulses from the motor. If it differs then the PLL circuit adds or lowers the power to the motor to keep the exact correct speed.

One more question, what do you think it’ll go for? I’m the high bidder for now but really don’t need to become a collector, no other reason to own one other than to compare to the gigantic and tremendous model.

I think it will get to $700 but i hope you get it for your current bid:D If you do get it for a cheap price I would love to see you create another masterpiece. Maybe this time in a dark african wenge:beatnik:

I have a sheet of 4’ by 8’ rosewood I want to use on the next one. Why not get an authentic GT rather than a want to be! Someone could’ve cobbled something together with this one in an attempt to defraud us? I doubt it though!

Also noticed that it runs at 28V which means the YOP-1's 24V would be insufficient. That means it has it's own custom external power supply floating around somewhere.

Anyone who know if the YDS-3 is coated with some plastic feeling lacquer? Mine isn't anymore :naughty:. Took me some 4hour at the grinding machine to get this mirror finish I wanted. I thought it would be a shame to alter this old piece but it looked awful when I got it home today from ebay. Patina was the sellers argument. I thought it should look better this way.

Now only the Yamah sticker that needs some attention too in the near future.

Mine arrived from Japan looking all shiny like that but then quickly tarnished with handling. Your's looks fantastic...nice work Tek! Did you use brasso? Could you dip it in something to protect the finish? I'd love to replicate it with different combinations of materials.

No I didn't use Brasso but some polishing sticks from my local hardwarestore. I checked their datasheet but only got this text out from the contents:
Mixture of fatty acids, paraffins, abrasive polishing minerals (tripoli, abrasive
minerals quartz).
Yes I'm thinking to wait and see if it degrades quickly about its shininess. If so I just polish it again and then clean it with alcohol and maybe use some plastic I had used before to seal it. I think it's called motorplastic and is in a spraycan as any paint but it hardens slow and then sits almost like a transparent rubber over all (almost like plastidip) . I tried it on an electronic board for many years ago and then ditched that test PCB outside for nature to kill it. After two years it still looked the same as when I sprayed it with the plastic. So seems to be a good product. Let's see what I decide.

A big thanks to Tekniknissen for noticing this and having the sheer openheartedness to share this with us. I would not be surprised if this turntable has never been mentioned anywhere. Quite the find and unique it would seem.
Thank you Theophile for your kindness. It was more luck than skill that I found that by an accident. I go in to that site often and search for Yamah GT or Yamaha 2000 and so on. Then finally I found this odd looking "2000" and couldn't resist to share it here. I did some Googeling but ended up empty so as you say it seems to be rare or extremely rare.

Yep nice find there. I search everyday for gt 2000 and never come across a GT-7. Can’t find anything else on it anywhere! My bid was only 200 and I’m not gonna pursue it, though I actually think it’s pretty valuable but try finding replacement parts!

I wonder what the Japanese make of us here in this group?

I assure you the Japanese are always surprised and flattered at our enthusiasm for their creations. My father-in-law loved hearing Supertramp on my NS-2000's. He actually spent his entire working career with Hitachi.

Would love to crack it open and see the guts!

So the guy selling the GT-2000x with all the extras finally broke down and put it up for bid. He should have actually parted it out and then would have got his full asking price. Ten g's is a serious psychological barrier for most people.
