He’s mentioned 304 and another, ones harder than the other, says casting gunmetal or any other casting is out of the picture, never know what you’ll windup with! Why not add this extra thickness like I have pictured, any comments on that?

I have used stainless nails before and they where able to attract to a magnet, slightly! Have you tried a magnet on your stainless platter’s and would that be bad thing if they used a ferrous alloy?

My SS platter is 304 stainless, which is non-magnetic (austenitic).

Personally I wouldn't add extra thickness as an integral part of the platter. I'd rather have it as a separate piece, and made of a dissimilar metal.

I have the 7 watt motor on my unit. If I would’ve known at the time that the L’s are 11 watts I wouldn’t purchased it! Looks like the X has 12 watts! Should’ve paid more attention. So will go with the stock dimensions and I’ll add a copper plate. If the 7 watts won’t handle the x-weight I’m sure my L series will when I purchase it.

I’ve left a message with cattail Foundry to see if he can cast gunmetal, I don’t think we’d have a problem using them, and it’s a simple shape. These guys can do anything. Well so much for that idea. Cattail is cast iron only. He told me that after 10 minutes of discussion, he was real curious to want to know how we know about gunmetal. Ha ha could the ygt be plated?

Great looking veneer! How are you planning to finish it?
I’m using the catalyzed varnish I have left over from the last one. Maybe you can tell me where the fasteners go for the speed sensor, I didn’t measure them and can’t find them exactly. Thanks fellows

Man I have a hard time keeping up with this thread. The AK software keeps logging me out.

Anyway this is probably old news and probably a thread elsewhere but what’s the scoop on the GT-5000?

I am permanently 'logged out' of this thread. Not by my choice but imposed by glitches in Xenforo. I do get 'alerts' that a post has been made. No emails. Only the alert box.

The GT 5000 is a Belt Drive. I've never seen anyone compare it to a GT 2000 series turntable. Watch out for it at the fire sale price of $1000 when no-one buys it.

While I don't have anything against belt drive in principal, the drive mechanism on the 5000 really doesn't appear befitting of the GT moniker or lineage, especially at that price point.

You're probably going to need to test fit the speed sensor with the platter in place. There's very little clearance between the platter and the inside edge of the speed sensor when it's installed on the speed sensor base.

You mean this tiny looking motor on its stand for example?

To me it looks like some small part inside a tapedeck or similar. Doesn't give me any good feeling at all about this TOTL unit.
