Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable Social Group

I think the one on yahoo jp with 117v in the listing would work if you are needing 120v.

I picked up the 117v version a couple of weeks ago. Too bad I didn't wait - the seller has one now for 40% less!

I don't have it hooked up yet as I just got the GT-2000 up and running. Yep, it was sitting boxed up for nearly a month. Between work and kids, there was no time. I finally expanded my rack last night, then got the GT set up tonight. HifiDo did an outstanding job packing. I have no regrets regarding the shipping cost, it was outstanding packaging.

To say it lives up to the GT is an understatement. It absolutely dwarfs my Rega P25, and even with the quick and dirty setup I did, it blows away the P25's bottom end. When I have some time, I'll refine the tone arm and cartridge alignment. Right now, I'm running it with a Denon DL110 into my Bryston B135.

Thanks to all here who shared their insights and feedback, you've helped me find quite the jewel!

Hello GT2000 owners. I have recently purchased a GT750 and have been tweaking it.
Would members here be offended if I ask for advice about my table. The arm is similar
and that's where my questions would be directed.

Thanks

That's great man, congratulations on your acquisition of a true specimen of japanese audio history!

I don't know what the deal is with that seller's pricing on the YOP-1. Yes yes dollars and sense...fine...ok...but it truly is all over the place and indeed patience can pay off.

Hifido packing is superior.

No worries here, ask away.

I have owned both the GT750 and GT2000. Ask away.

Could someone please give some advice on tonearm bearing adjustment.
The tone arm bearing adjustment was slightly loose and could be made to rattle, when I first got the table.
How loose or tight should these be, and any tricks to get it just right. I must have spent an hour getting it to where
the arm floated freely, but had no reproducible play in the bearing area.

I'm sorry to say I'm stumped on that one. I have never had to adjust these screws as everything feels firm. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Does anyone here use a setup/test record, and if so, which one? I haven't in the past, but I'm curious if anyone has found value in having one.

I don't use a test record to set up, but do use the HiFi News Test Record to check tracking once I have set up using the Mint LP protractor.

I highly recommend the Mint LP Protractor. It approximately $130. Here's the link http://mintlp.com/best.htm

Funny thing is when I received mine I noticed the guy operates from the same apartment complex I used to live in Hong Kong.

On the recommendation of martydmnt I just picked up this for 12,000 yen.

Looking forward to hearing the benefits.

I tracked down and purchased a Telarc OmniDisc test record set. It's very useful for getting your table completely dialed in, especially anti-skate.

I am glad you posted this. I have always had some play in the vertical bearing and now, I don't. Put the arm in the rest so it won't move. Then you can loosen the small center screw which will take the larger threaded washer with it. Remove the washer after a few turns leaving the smaller center screw. Tighten it back up just enough that there is no 'play' in the bearing. Put the threaded washer back on and tighten it up.

Took me all of two minutes and my arm has no more play. Give it a shot!

The trick with the arm bearings I believe is to get them tight but not too tight.
The arm free of the rest should be able to rise up and float down easily when neutrally balanced. (See Saw motion)
And lateral movement it should freely ease back towards the arm rest even without the anti-skate
engaged.

Um if anyone is interested in jumping into the GT-2k game there is a standard black unit with a beautiful YSA-2 (no cracks in the casting/powder coat) up on hifido with no hold at the moment. The mat is not standard but overall the unit is in beautiful condition.

It's a bargain compared to what the YSA-2 arms go for on Yahoo auctions alone!

Quick question here. Has anyone had the lift bar stop working on theirs? Mine did this past Friday so I took the tonearm off and discovered that the plastic key at the end of the rod had broken in about 5 big pieces. I got it put back together with gorilla super glue and a hard epoxy coating on the outside but I'm worried it wont last. I emailed HIFIDO and was told they wont sell parts like that even if they had one. I guess I need to find a 3d printer or someone with a tonearm that's good for parting out. Any suggestions?

I saw this but noticed that the YSA-2 arm had "YA-39" written on the tower where the VTA adjustment is. I've also seen this before on YSA-1 tonearms. Was an upgrade service offered back in the day or is someone making fakes out there?!

I think both the 1 & 2 came standard with an unpainted cylinder/tower but for whatever reason they mostly show up on the auctions with YA-39 cylinders. Probably just a convenience thing of swapping arms to bases rather than removing the whole thing or they maybe they preferred the look. I have seen one with YSA-1 painted on top but have to wonder if that was simply hand painted.
