Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable Social Group

Very cool looking table! I'm sure it will sound fantastic once you get it home. I too recommend the Mint and have one for each of my tables. Takes the pain out of alignment and gets it just about as good as it gets.

If your in laws want to get into the hi-fi exporting biz do let us know :). You'll make friends here really fast if so...

The cork mat kind of gives it that "Old Spice" look :D. If it sounds good I might use it but otherwise it will go in the closet. I'm looking forward to trying the MJ-12, I've tried a BR-12 and tonally it sounded great.

When I was telling my in-laws how much our beloved gear goes for overseas (add a third or double the Japan price) they were pretty shocked. I've seriously contemplated becoming a middle man.

Interestingly a guy at one of the hifido shops told me that the Chinese audiophiles are snapping up the Yamaha gear like crazy and that's why their good stock is gone within hours and he never sees it again.

HI
Well Im the happy owner of almost full yamaha centennial gear (missing only the phono stage ) so
the Yamaha was a "natural" choice.
Got it from Yahoo Japan auctions, so far I have try it with Denon 103d 103s and DSL1 , Van Den hull Colibri xgp
and running now a ZYX airy 3s
Very nice table, easy to use, extreme Japanese engineering
Got the external power supply, great upgrade if only for the brake feature
Got 3 tables
VPI TNT 3, Micro Seiki SX777air and the Yamaha GT, My fav is the Micro then the Yamaha, the VPI are, to me, very
simple devices compared with the others..but sounds good
The best sound is the Micro with Ortofon SPU gold, probably the cartridge, but the Yamaha is far easier to use
I may lean to the ortofon sound by the timbre and body instead of the new cartridges high end super detailed
sound

I hate to say it, but the testimony here at AK, not only from me but from others now, about the excellence of the GT 2000 series would have put it on the radar of many who would have been reluctant to take a chance on an otherwise unknown quantity. So guys, if you want another GT 2000 get it soon because they aren't making any more of them and our testimony might mean that they aren't there to be bought as readily as they are currently.

Actually one interesting thing about Japan is that although it appears small on the map, the population density is pretty high. There are quite possibly a great number of these that were gifted to workers by their employer and are quietly sitting in their basement or kid's childhood bedroom. There are so many little nooks and crannies in Japan but how long will it take for them to reemerge? For example, the table I just ordered is from Kobe and an original platter mat I grabbed a couple months ago came from Shizuoka. The good stuff is scattered all over the place. The interest in vinyl is definitely resurging in Japan, at least based on the current prices in Tokyo.

Another item of interest is that jp sellers are now putting their same stuff up on the 'bay at a much higher price.

There's actually a video on yutoob of a Russian guy replicating the plinth and metal badge plate of a GT from scratch.

I think hifido had a HX-10000 a few months ago. Do have the NSX-10000's as well?

Yes, you are right Theo
The HX-10.000 shows in Japan and in Russia , but Im not willing to pay the asking prices, 5.000 to 6.500 US
Its probably worth to have them all, but Im partial to SUTs and tube after my table, I will buy the thing latter just to have it when
and if I get spare money
808-state yes I do

Really beautiful, congratulations amigo.

Soon to be getting a YSA-1 arm...anyone have a link to the manual? I already checked the literature db thread and vinyl engine only has a copy for the YSA-2 (which is somewhat lengthy).

Mine has the headshell also. Just no spare headshell.
The ones with the original box, manual, spare headshell and attached YAL-1 lifter go for over $1000. Next time I go to Japan I will likely go on a headshell/cartridge hunt.

I think mine is a frankenstein of an old YA-39 and a YSA-1 strut arm, others I've seen appear to be built from the shiny/partially painted base like the GT-750 and 1000.

More loot!

The YDS-3 was on the jp auction for months and I finally decided to grab it...looks great! The extra lifter will go on the YSA-1 while my tech takes a look at the one on my YA-39 (I think the IR sensor needs resoldered or replaced). My next hopes are a YDS-8 and maybe a Yamaha MC-100 cart (MC-11 on the way in the mail).
