Has anyone seen that luscious YSA 2 Tonearm on yahoo Japan. Comes with original packing materials, box, cables and two headshells. Very very nice. The only problem is the added costs the third party broker would add.
I'm very familiar with that particular Audiogon thread. Although there are IC issues with the Japan Victor TT101, that was not what caused the problem which gave that thread its impetus. Eventually after trying multiple techs, the owner of the 101 found that it was micro-fractures in the solder joints that were causing the problems. A thorough tech went right through his 101 and re-soldered every joint. That fixed the problem. As to the GT 2000, I have never heard of any IC problem with it. The bearing doesn't appear to need re-lubricating. The bearing was designed to bear the load of the 38 pound optional gunmetal platter, therefore it is minimally loaded by the standard 13 pound platter.
There have arisen some issues with some not all of the arms which cause the powder-coated finish to crack around the arm's bearings. There seems to be occasionally 'sticking' problems with the arms where they 'bind' at one or more points as they traverse the groove from edge to label. It isn't common but I experienced it with my YSA-1. I fixed it myself by alternately pulling up vertically on the arm tube(at the bearing housing) whilst moving the arm back and forth horizontally multiple times, and alternating with pushing the arm down at the bearing housing whilst moving the arm back and forth horizontally. The problem with the arm sticking never came back.
Other than the arm(s) problems there doesn't seem to have arisen any other problems as long as the turntable is used with a 100 volt AC source. In other words, if where you live(which isn't clear) doesn't have 100 volt mains power, the advice would be to use a voltage matching step-down transformer to step down the local mains power voltage to match the turntable's requirement of the Japanese voltage of 100 volts AC.
Most of us here at AK who have bought a GT 2000 have purchased ours at HiFiDo and recommend others to do the same. The reason being that HiFiDo do an exemplary job of packing anything they sell. Of course this is countered by the freight companies who seem to be hell bent on destroying anything they carry, but short of flying to Japan and personally carrying the turntable back to your part of the world to avoid problems, the HiFiDo crew give one the best chance of your precious cargo arriving in one piece. Fingers crossed.
So far there are over twenty AK members who have bought GT 2000s and not one yet has been anything but happy with the effort to do so. Keep us informed of your ongoing adventure into the land of the rising sun's trading sector.
I looked directly at Japan Yahoo Auctions turntable section just now and didn't see the listing
Found it in the subsection under the turntable heading known as Other :

$4344 I think I will pass...
Theo I remember us chatting about this anchor block previously and you made some interesting points about the anchor limitations regarding the turntable's stability as compared with your centre of gravity experiments.
I purchased one of the YS-2 tonearms for sale on Yahoo Japan via Buyee. Well it turned up broken and cracked as the packaging was an absolute disgrace. Fortunately they refunded me the cost & postage. Hifido is the way to go when it comes to packaging of equipment their packaging is fantastic.
Hi ateal,
I purchased the one without the original box.
As mentioned whoever packed the tonearm had zero understanding of what they were handling.
I might consider a YSA-1 in the future although I still think the YSA-39 I think is a decent tonearm.

808 State i have no idea if the tonearm was repackaged.
The mat included with the YGT-1 looks exactly like the standard rubber one i received when I purchased my GT-2000.
I agree. My experience buying from Yahoo! Japan through Buyee is that it's a crap shoot when it comes to the quality of packing, and that's with paying extra for protective packaging. Turntables are not something I would take that risk with. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a GT-2000 from HiFiDo.I'm pretty certain that most of the Japanese auction agents are simply a proxy buyer, mailing address and freight forwarder. They take no responsibility for the seller's packing nor the condition of the goods forwarded. That is my understanding. Hence, if you want a GT 2000 to arrive in one piece, it has to be HiFiDo.
it has to be HiFiDo.
