Hi,
Out of curiosity, I'm about to service a Sony TA-1130 which seems to have a rather early serial: 550008.
The chassis also shows a sticker with 00374 stamped on it.
Is this one of the very first units to roll off the production line, or are there lower serial numbers for this model ?
Hey everyone,
I'm looking for some opinions and advice regarding a potential turntable change.
Currently, I own a Telefunken TS 860. It's fully functional and complete, and I've personally serviced it (cleaned, lubricated, etc.), so it's in great shape.
I've come across a Sony PS-212 SH that's...

I recently inherited a fully functional Pioneer SX-535 receiver (rated 20wpc). Will running this receiver with McIntosh ML-10C speakers cause excessive clipping even if I just listen at low-to-moderate volume in a smaller room?
I also have an Onkyo TX-2500 MkII rated at 27wpc but currently...
So ive got this Sony TA-1010 that has blown left channel outputs 2SC895 and a driver 2SC1124 on left channel so my question is can you use the MJE15032G
(keep in mind the originals all are NPN too, this amp uses all NPN for outputs)
amp is currently working without problems on right channel...
Hi folks,
I have an older Sony XA5400ES SACD; great player; sounds wonderful. But now it's having an issue.
When I play a disc I hear a "whirring" noise; it's not the disc itself - it's more of a mechanical sound - faint - but getting more noticeable. I hear it even when I pause the disc.
Any...
There's a Sony TA F519R available locally for $126
-Works, original parts, still has Remote Control
I'm not as familiar with Sony Amps, is this a good amp? and any problems with Sony amps from this age/range?
More Photos:
Just picked up an Sony TC188SD from ebay in great condition. The only problem I have is that the left Channel has a disty hiss sound to it all the time not only during playback.
It stops whenever I press a different Switch (Pause, Play, Record) it's not on the recording itself.
Probably a faulty...
I recently purchased a non working ta1055 integrated amp.
Upon testing I realized a couple of output transistors were cactus so I replaced all 4 of them with new tip31c transistors, I also went through and replaced the uni watt driver transistors with bd139 & bd140 pairs.
When tested all looked...
Hi all. I have an older Sony TA-AV521 with a noisy potentiometer. It is a sealed unit, but I soaked it in cleaner, as well as sprayed it several times. I ended up taking it completely apart because it would not give me any volume on one channel even after moving it back and forth etc. So, here...

I re-belted my TC-K679ES and along the way I collected some info on Sony deck belts sizes that I thought I'd pass along. Take my belt size estimates with a grain of salt.
I'm working on a Sony STR-6036A receiver which had a hum when I bought it. The hum is 60hz (pic), it's in both speakers, and it doesn't change much with volume. It's there at zero volume and approx doubles with the volume all the way up. I put my mini-scope on the filter caps and one looks...
I have an opportunity to get a Sony Str-6045 for 300 Canadian. Its not easy to find accurate specs but I think I did and it has pretty poor SNR on MM phono (important) 60db, and the other two aren't great either. Is it worth it? Would I be happy with the sound? I am learning so I could be...
I really truly love the look of the mid to late 80's sony receivers I just love their design I also want them to match with my PS-FL7II I picked up for cheap at an estate sale in good condition but I'm stumped on what receiver would be best for my case I have a set of Sony SSCS5 bookshelf...
Some time ago, a friend of mine inquired about purchasing a VFET amplifier, and was veering towards a Sony TA-N7b. However due to both their expense and rarity, he decided to go with the more common and easily servicable TAN-5550 model. I've worked on a few of these at this point and know the...
I've started slowly and carefully disassembling my TC-K679ES deck, only after watching Youtube repair videos multiple times. I've run into my first obstacle, the extensive use of cheap retaining washers. I know I can pry the things off; however, I'm concerned that if I mangle the things too much...
Preface:
Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've posted here or on YouTube, so I wanted to share an update about a project I started back in June. Life has been pretty hectic with work and everything else, leaving me little time for any repair or restoration projects. However, I did carve...
Would the Sony APM-66es speakers hold up to today's speakers of same price point? Would I be better off waiting until I find a pair for sale or is there a brand new speaker that is currently on the market that would be way better? I'm told by people that speaker technology has improved a lot in...
Hi all!
Unfortunately my receiver has multiple noise problems.
1. Constant hiss at any volume, even volume pot is on 0.
2. Variable buzz only in the right channel, which depends on volume pot position. (when the buzz is present, the left channels hiss also changes a bit in the same way)
I'm...
Hi, new member here, I just picked up a SONY TA-1150, the amplifier looks and sounds amazing, I had to part with my audio lab 8000a, but no regrets. The Sony was advertised as fully working but it has some issues that I thought that you could help me with.
1. There is a loud thump when powering...
Hi all
I have a TA-4650 on my bench that according to the owner blew a fuse. When I received the amp I removed the v-fets and tested them, they all seem to be ok (see table below). With the v-fets removed I did some checks and noticed that the +20V and the +75V were both missing. After a lot of...

Hello Guys,
a couple of days ago I picked up a very nice Sony STR-7055. I cleaned the controls, replaced all bulbs and did a full re-cap of the receiver. I also set the bias to the recommended 50mv and checked the DC offset.
And everything is working very well, sadly the radio has on one channel...
