Here's the Swiss Army knife I've carried around for about 30 years. It's not too big but has a useful combination of blades and stuff. I think they claimed "11 functions", including "keyring" (which, IMO, is stretching it).

I've used every "function" many times except maybe the wire stripper. Blades, bottle opener and corkscrew matter the most (don't leave home without a corkscrew... you never know!), used the screwdrivers surprisingly often, and opened a few cans of beans.

The Photon light was tied to the keyring with part of a bootlace 10-15 years ago and has been there since. It's very handy, indispensable at times, and still on its original battery.

That's what I need, I can just never remember to look for one, when I'm out & about. I had the same one for a good 6 or 7 years, but broke it moving a fridge. :sigh:

I don't usually although I think I have one in my firstaid kit in my car. I have several but dont carry them even when I'm pheasant hunting (all I do currently). I find cleaning birds with fingers alot more convienent.

I still have a couple of knives from late 70s, a kershaw and technicraft, both lockblades which I have a sentimental attachment to, the others - not so much.

Picked up this Gerber at Target.

EZ one-handed use.

I have a very similar Gerber that's my standard carry knife.

Other than that, I have a typical Swiss Army knife that's a bit of a pain to carry around and a couple of older/collectible knives. My favorite of those being a little stainless steel Coca-Cola advertising piece from the 1950s that my dad gave me years ago.

Spyderco serrated Dragonfly in ATS-55 steel is my daily driver. Something about the Spyderco just feels right in my hands, and clipped on my pocket. Love the weighty feel of the all steel knife.

Been looking at DIY knives some lately. (I bet you're all shocked!) This one looked appealing to me:

I've got one of those little Swiss Army Executive knives on my key-chain with the little bitty 1" or so blade.
I do have a larger Swiss with the usual bunch of tomfoolery, and a lock-back Schrade that was my Dad's in my desk drawer that's pretty intimidating with a 3 1/2" blade, albeit with a pitted tip.

And there's usually a razor blade box cutter in my pocket. Tool of the trade and all that...

That one looks alot like the one I carry.

Been carrying a Victorinox Hiker for a long time. Probably in the 15 year range. I've used every tool on it multiple times. It's my McGyver knife.

Last winter on a sailing trip I was wearing lightweight shorts for a week and the McGyver was weighing them down so I found a lighter knife with a clip and kind of got attached to it. It's a Gerber Ripstop I. Now it seems I usually have both unless I'm in the lightweight shorts in summertime.

I used to carry an Opinel. Nowadays I only have a phone and keys in my pockets + sometimes a wallet.

I carry an Opinel in my "kid bag". It's great for cutting up fruit, cheese, and other snacks. I like it's unassuming looks, other parents don't freak out.

Spyderco ATR

Keep going back to a Spyderco ATR. Thin enough to carry in my back pocket (once you loose the incredibly over tight clip it comes with and put a standard clip on it) I think I'd break the blade well before the lock would fail. Wish the blade were a little shorter -but once you get used to bigger folders -the smaller ones seem awkward to use. Been using some sort of pocket knife daily since I was 10 ( we weren't allowed knives until we could sharpen 'em,)Simply a general purpose tool that I can't imagine being without.
