Most underated classic rock lp's

Pete Townsend And Ronnie Lane- Rough Mix. "My Baby Gives It Away" should have been a top ten hit.

The Clash- London Calling. " Lost In A Supermarket" still stops me in my tracks.

Rod Stewart- Every Picture Tells A Story. People forget just how good this guy really was.

The Hounds- Unleash The Hounds. One of my favorite albums evahhhhh! John Hunter later went on to have a huge hit with "Tragedy". Great song, cheesey video.

The Fabulous Poodles- Mirror Star. Great version of "Chicago Boxcar" and of course the title track.

+1 on "Rough Mix".
Also been spinning some Cat Stevens, this guy is a gifted musician and the albums still sound well-done.

Les Dudek: Les Dudek, Say No More , & Ghost Town Parade. Those are the 3 records I have. Probably all of his stuff's good. Excellent recording quality too.

Les Dudek. Thanks, ED! Les was naggin' at the edge of my brain yesterday...glad you mentioned him!

Lou Reed - Rock And Roll Animal
+1 on Humble Pie - Rockin' The Fillmore
+2 on Allman Bros. - Live At The Fillmore (My all time favorite album!!)

For Zappa, I'd start with either Hot Rats or Overnite Sensation. I once had every Zappa album up to 1977 or so memorized, and those are my two favorites.

Great choices!

Pio1980 mentioned Cat Stevens, the guy is really a gifted lyricist and musician. He dabbled a little bit with prog with the "Foreigner" album, i should listen to it again, i have a mint copy of it.

Wow, I am floored, I just read all eight pages and while it may have escaped me, there isn't a single mention for anything by Thin Lizzy?

Ok, here are my suggestions then:

Thin Lizzy - Black Rose: A Rock Legend. Simply a classic IMHO and a must have for anyone who likes anything to do with rock music or Irish myths. :)

AC/DC - Powerage - Popular band, way under-appreciated album.

Blue Oyster Cult - Fire of Unknown Origin. It was the true soundtrack to the movie Heavy Metal...what more can you ask for?

Rainbow - Long Live Rock N' Roll. I would have put other earlier Rainbow albums, but I think those get respect. If you love Dio, get this album!

Clearly you've never heard Rare Earth's "Willie Remembers"
??? Then you've never heard "I Couldn't Believe What Happened Last Night" on that album. One of my favorite Rare Earth tunes. May be one of the better recordings quality-wise too. Think I'll go out and give it a spin. :music:

Wishbone ash -4
wishbone ash -argus
cactus-restrictions
faces- ooh la la
artful dodger s/t
rare bird- as your mind flies by
just to name a few........

While I like AC-DC I can do about 3 cuts max of anything like that anymore and I'm done for the day on it. Beyond them, the later grunt growl and groan and "speed" heavy metal just didn't appeal in the slightest in spite of the skill involved. I think The Strawb's "Hair Of The Dog" (possible nomination for the list here) is the last metal album I bought and enjoyed in fact but with that one I knew the genre wasn't for me and I was pretty much done with it.

Alice cooper- easy action
thin lizzy-vagabond of the western world
atomic rooster-death walks behind you
mahogany rush-live
james gang-thirds
flamin' groovies-shake some action
the stooges- funhouse
ac/dc-jailbreak
lee michaels-barrel
stepenwolf-monster

ELO - Out of the Blue - The ultimate in excessive, over the top 70's rock. Just huge in scale and production. Get a really big system and envelope yourself in "Concerto for a Rainy Day". ELO's high point. And also the beginning of the end.

ELO - Eldorado - Including this one too, even though it is starting to get some recognition. Jeff Lynne really figured out with this album what ELO is all about. Not as pop or mainstream as the later stuff.

Mothers Finest- First LP
Mott The Hoople- All The Young Dudes

I remember seeing Mothers Finest at the late Starwood Club in Hollywood. What an amazing band that never became as big as they should have. They did a great version of Smokey Robinsons' "Mickeys' Monkey" by combining it with Led Zeps' "Custard Pie"
