Most underated classic rock lp's

Somebody mentioned ARS earlier in the thread...

Mid 70s Atlanta Rhythm Section - Third Annual Pipe Dream, Dog Days, Red Tape...

My favorite ARS is their first 1972 self titled album on Decca.

Also a few months before in late '71, Decca released a record from a horn rock band called "Sod" and had a couple of tunes that got air play like "Too Loose To Get Tight Pts 1 & 2" then after releasing a second very good album "Face The Music" they disappeared.

Jefferson Airplane-surrealistic pillow
Pretty Things-silk torpedo
Bob Seeger-the distance
Bob Seeger-seven
Queen-st "queen 1" I guess
Leon Russell-best
War-best

This is an endless discussion for sure.

Les Dudek: Les Dudek, Say No More , & Ghost Town Parade. Those are the 3 records I have. Probably all of his stuff's good. Excellent recording quality too.

Humble Pie- Rockin' The Fillmore. That album rocks!

(So did the Filmore West and Winterland back in 1970.)

---

James Gang: 'Rides Again' and 'Thirds'. For the younger folks here, just try Joe Walsh's 'Greatest Hits' CD! It's 'loaded' with songs and it's really great. One of the few 'greatest hits' CDs that is really 'simply outstanding'. And it's only like $7 brand new on eBay.

Johnny Winter: just only one of the Greats of all time. Just played some JW records the other night. .

Seals and Croft: They were a really great band. Just nice and fine music. Very kick back and sonically pleasing. Always a great spin.

Spirit. We all know Spirit.

Jefferson Airplane: Surrealistic Pillow and other early albums.

Robin Trower. If it wasn't for Hendrix, he would of been #1 for that type of music. Outstanding.

Deep Purple: 'Made in Japan', the live album, or whatever the name is.
10 Year After: 'Live'
Alice Cooper: 'Killer'

Ramones: 'Ramones', the first album. The Japanese pressed CD sounds most excellent. So does the later audiophile pressed LP, sounds outrageous, dead quite vinyl.

A n d ...

Arlo Guthrie's: 'Alice's Resturaunt'.

A total blast from the past! Haven't heard it for 10-30 years? Give it a spin. It will put a 'big smile' on your face...'Again' !! :>)

And it's a great album cover too, just begging for Framing and Display! LOL.

"You can get anything you want, at Alice's Resturant (except Alice). Walk right in, sit right down....)

For the younger folks here who haven't heard it...the main song on the album 'Alices Resturaunt' and it's 18 minutes and 20 seconds long, so grab your cokes, beers, chips, and whatever...enjoy.

For Zappa, I'd start with either Hot Rats or Overnite Sensation. I once had every Zappa album up to 1977 or so memorized, and those are my two favorites.

I'd also second the suggestions for Spirit (esp The Twelve Dreams of Dr Sardonicus), early Jethro Tull (Benefit, Stand Up), Traffic (the early stuff like Paper Sun is really cool, and John Barleycorn is a classic), Love (esp Forever Changes), the Kinks (late 60s - early 70s) and Family (Bandstand is my favorite).

Two other bands from the 70s I haven't seen mentioned are Nektar (English psychedelica sort of like Pink Floyd) and Gentle Giant (English, but folk rock). I listened to both of them a lot at the time, and still like them now. If English Folk is something you like, Pentangle and Steeleye Span are also good.

The Baker Gurvitz Army (1974). Truly an overlooked album that deserves much more recognition than it gets.

Long John Baldry - Everything Stops For Tea and It Ain't Easy are both classics.

If you like progressive rock: Nektar's A Tab in the Ocean & Remember the Future

Captain Beyond - S/T and Sufficiently Breathless

Big Brother & The Holding Company - Cheap Thrills
