My wife is just like what Luvvinvinyl describes. She likes good music well enough and can hear the difference between "ok" and "audiophile", but doesn't understand why I just don't "leave it alone... it was good enough before, wasn't it?!".
I wonder sometimes if women really hear sounds in the world the same way men do... maybe their ears interpret things differently, like the way people with color blindness see things differently. Maybe early ("cave") men, as the hunters and fighters, had to develop a different appreciation of sound/ears to detect prey and to remain quiet when stalking or sneaking up on prey or enemies? Maybe women needed sensitivity to the cries of babies, but with a different emphasis that predisposes them not to care about audiphile sound? Or perhaps we (men) like fiddling with equipment more, because we evolved as tool- and weapon-users first?
OK, probably a lot of sexist over-simplification there, but there might be some evolutionary basis for a genetic difference.... otherwise, why do so many men like this audio hobby, and so few women? I don't know why, but there must be a reason.

I think you may have hit on something there.
Especially the part about womens hearing babies and man's need to play with tools.
I may just use your theroy next time i buy vintage gear and the wife looks at me like i lost my mind.

I love girls. Especially the really hot ones. If I had the right women I could care less about transistors and tubes. I'd be busy making my own music
