Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable Social Group

Has anyone replaced their tonearm cable (ya39)? Or has this been discussed? I did a search with no luck. Basically i need a longer cable to solve some placement issues. I recall someone stating that the stock cable is pretty good. How blasphemous is it to use an rca extension?

The very Mogami cable the YA-39 is wired with, is no longer in production. However, there are several models in production that are almost identical, like the NEGLEX Quad W2534. I intend to have one built for the SAEC WE-407/23 I am waiting to arrive in a week or so.

Cool. Thanks for the tip. Did you end up ordering that arm board that Plato65 recommended?

I have a question regarding the ant skating. When apllying anti skating is the force higher the more you adjust the weightwire away from the tonearm or is it the other way around.

Higher force the farther away from the tonearm ...you are using a longer "lever" when you connect the string to points closer to its end.

Thanks for the tip. Much appreciated. Strange is that my lever looks different and only has half the scale. Only 1.0, 1.5, 2,0 and 2,5 are visible. Do others have this also?

I've seen many pictures with different scale on the YA-39, no idea why is that. Mine is the more granular one, in 0.25 steps, but have seen many others with only 0.5 steps. Anyway, the rule of thumb is to set the antiskating to the next lower setting available (i.e. for a 2.1g VTF, choose 2 on the antiskating scale, VTFs like 1.9g are trickier with 0.5 steps on the antiskating, I would choose 1.5, but 1.75 would be more appropriate).

I'm just going to inscrutably pose the question:

Why do some arms pull the anti skate toward the rim of the record and others toward the center?

I think it has something to do with where it pulls relative to the pivot axis. On the SAEC 407/23 the weight is on the inside of the arm but pulls from behind the pivot instead of in front like the YA-39. I'm sure there's many views on which configuration is more effective.

Has anyone tried the Ortofon SPU Wood A? Ortofon states that it is for arms that require a "shorter overhang". Does the YA39 require shorter overhang? Wouldn't it be helpful if Ortofon listed a dimension of the stylus relative to end of the arm?

If it is the same as the other SPU then it Will work i read that some GT2000 users had good experience with SPU. Only due to weight you need an additionsl counter weight.

Ortofon: "The length of the SPU Wood A can be adapted by using an APJ-1 adapter. More importantly, can your counterweigth balance the weight of the SPU Wood A?"
As we know, these SPU require additional counterweights, per Ateal
