Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable Social Group

Thank you! And, btw, I plan on using a Hana MH that a friend is holding for me (with either an HS-11 or Project Signature AL headshell) and ordering a YOP-1 clone from Alexander very soon if everything checks out... front end is Yamaha AS-2100... not quite the AS-3000, but it's incredible
Congrats! Can you report on your HS-11 should you decide to use it?

Fourby, as you have consistently seen, I suggest to new owners that they familiarise themselves with the sound of the stock GT 2000(or stock GT 2000L/ stock GT 2000X). Without power supply etc. Use it for a while just as is and get to know that sound. I'm an advocate of the options, but I feel it benefits the owner to have a sense of what the stock GT 2000 experience entails.

A suggestion. Not a requirement.

I’m going to take your advice Theophile, but I happened upon a good deal on a YOP, so I will store it a bit until I have adequate ear time on my TT with the standard plug. I have to redo my space and improve my stand before I really can set it up properly. I have the Mint protractor coming, and I did order an interesting custom protractor on eBay. A headshell was not included, so in keeping with your idea, I procured an HS-11.

Holy crap!

I don't know whether that is tongue in cheek, or to be taken seriously, never having had a personal assistant or private jet. :)

I wish we could all put together and find an individual to cast several of these for us! I spoke to a foundry in the US and he pretty much laughed at me. The first thing they ask is what do you need it for, what are you doing and why not just use something else!

He doesn't have a gunmetal cast source! Or at least I don't think he does. Stainless and copper yes. I have a company in New Orleans that can get a stainless blank the size we need for 450. This was before the covid shutdown. Of course you'll need a good machinist to handle it after.

The manufacturing is very difficult bec of the very small margin. Wilking turntable's decided not to make one for me. Due to the difficult process especially the spindel part bec it is tappered.

I sent pics to an old retired machinist and I told him about the tapered arbor, he said it wouldn't be that difficult to turn a platter, first year apprentice could do it. (You ever see some of the complicated stuff made in someone's shop) A tapered cutter of some sort could be used, you go in a little and not much and he would've had my motor to fit it exactly! Like you say do it wrong and your done. At which point it would be sleeved.

Just wanted to update everyone on my GT-2000 adventure. I was supposed to travel to Tokyo in June of 2020 and of course, that was scrapped. My hope was to visit a junk shop, buy a GT and have it shipped home to Miami Beach. Well. it looks like the NEW trip is going to be to Seoul, because the twins, (my daughters) have switched their preference for a graduation trip from Tokyo to Seoul. Something about one being a BTS fan and the other one not giving two shits where we go.

SO.... was the GT-2000 a thing in Korea? What's the equivalent of the "junk shops" there? Should I just buy a Technics? Sigh.

Sorry to hear that @MannyE! You probably have a better chance of finding one in Korea than in North America though. And maybe you can do a stop-over in Tokyo?

Anyone use these townshend seismic load cells yet? Under there GT? As far as price goes there cheap if you ask me considering the quality I'm seeing and feeling. Very well made and sturdy. All those other robber feet and some other joke items I've purchased, these before being installed you know there gonna work. Different weight models are made, just a damped spring is all it is. 1" height adjustable.

64 lbs. ok I've used the stock feet, Ive placed my table down without the feet straight on the bottom, I've used the iso acoustic pucks I've used the iso acoustic speaker feet and I've used some other mag type feet off of Amazon and I can't tell any difference. Now with these I'll listen for awhile and I'll then swap them out with the ISO pucks and see if I can actually hear a difference. All these guys claim they immediately have more detail, a wider soundstage, better imaging, increased resolution and the list goes on, I don't buy it. And that's with using just about any one isolation technique. How does one know in the first place he has an isolation issue to begin with? Well the sound pressures of what's in our rooms is invariably already there smearing out sq! Maybe some of us just can't pick it up or at the very least we don't think we benefit from any tweaks that might get us there.
