Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable Social Group

I probably won't be able to share all the pictures with you right now. When it rains, it pours. That is, it is raining, and pouring outside, it is also pool night, and my wife is at the hospital with her dad. I'm probably heading over shortly. He just lost his wife, and he fell three times his morning. Not good!

Don't think pool will happen, and limited listening time.

For starters, "the unveiling!"

I recommend saving the boxes or taking as many pictures as possible so you know how to pack one...should you decide to pick up another one (it may happen sooner than you think).

I am going to try to save the boxes, but finding space will be challenging. My audio gear is taking up most of the spare space I have. As for getting another one, well, I do have two systems set up in the house(plus the test system is is hooked up to right now), but more likely I will get a power supply. And maybe one of those new fangled platters that Mark B has been able to get made. Those are absolutely stunning!

My wife is back from the hospital, and I won't be going to pool tonight. Maybe I'll move the GT-2000 onto the McIntosh system. It will just fit on the stand!

Here are a few more pictures!

One thing that continues to fascinate me about the 2000L is how different the color looks depending on how the light strikes it. Whatever the hue, you're going to love it the more you hear it.

This morning, I got a call from Fedex to let me know my packages had arrived, and that there are customs forms to complete. Did that at noon, and brought my new baby home. It really does feel like a new member has joined the family. All I can say, is wow! This unit is stunning! And it is Gigantic and Tremendous! It looks brand new! I've taken some pictures of "the unveiling". I'll post them later as I am working right now.

BB, that is an exceptionally fine looking GT-2000L!

You are in for a treat.

My wife and I were just listening to Donovan's greatest hits, in the GT-2000Ls new location, on the Mc system. This system has a C26 preamp that leestereo had fully restored and optimized. He paid particular attention to the phono section, and it really shows. Does it ever sound great! Both of us were mesmerized as we listened to There is a Mountain. I levelled it off, and I'm borrowing the headshell and cartridge from the Kenwood KD-550. Cartridge is an Ortofon D15 E super. Need to get a protractor. Then I need to go through my cartridge collection to see what else I want to try with it.

Just like everyone has said, the background is blacker, the bass is full which is the best way I can describe it, and details are coming through with clarity.

I'm wondering if anybody has tried lubing the motor bearings. I know that the specifications say it isn't necessary, but they said that about the Kenwood KD-550, and I did it there and saw excellent results.

Thanks ateal! We are really enjoying it. My wife says there is something she just can't put a finger on. Nina Simone playing right now, and she sounds so silky smooth!

I was stunned when I took it out of the boxes. Even the dust cover looks perfect. The only fault, and its a small one, is the anti skating thread is broken. But I'm going to bring it to someone who makes jewelry to fix. Tried other ways with a Thorens TD-165 that worked but could look better.

I wish Arkay would come out of AK retirement as I enjoy reading his old posts. Especially since I lived in Hong Kong for 9 years and am familiar with some of the audio shops he spoke of.

I remember fondly spending countless Saturdays in some amazing Hong Kong listening rooms, often bringing in my own CD’s.

Heck, we may have even been in a few of these places at the same time.

One beautiful table! You running the Ortofon Super on it, now? I bet that deck would look very groovy with an Ortofon SPU cartridge!

I would love to, but looking at prices I'm seeing, that will have to wait a little while.

So far though, I am going through what everyone else probably went through when they first got this table. A very strong desire to listen to all my favourite albums on this table to hear how nice they all sound. Last night, the last album I put on was a Canadian first pressing of LZ1, and to my surprise, it sounded excellent!

It is an incredibly musical and engaging table. If it ever sounds flat or dull then it's paired with the wrong cart and the table quickly lets you know that. There's no in between. When I first started with mine I tried a Zyx R-50 Bloom lomc and on paper it should have worked with the YA-39 arm. No amount of setup adjustment or loading could achieve a enjoyable result. It was frustrating and I literally hated the sound. Still I never doubted the GT. Then I decided to try some vintage Yamaha carts because I figured that at the minimum Yamaha designed the table with them in mind (or vice versa). Sure enough I was right, the MC-1s, MC-100 (on YSA-1 arm) and ultimately the MC-1x were simply a revelation on that table. All the depth, clarity and excitement I had been missing were suddenly present. My Euro copy of LZ II simply rocks on the GT and I even prefer it to the mythical RL cut. My best is advice is to pay attention to cartridge weight and keep the total mass of the cart and headshell close to the mass of the MC-1x:

I strongly feel this is the magic number for the YA-39. For the YSA-1 it's a cart that weighs 10 grams (MC-100).

Eye candy!

That looks weighty. Gives me a back ache(plus a smile) just looking at the photos. Lovely work bruno.
It’s not heavy, I’ve only added two layers of 3/4” birch for effect. Now the big ole oak carcass yeah it was heavy but retired now, it would break your back.

Gents, I need two dust covers for my GT’s Which I’m gonna have made from a recommended company, is there anything that one would change from the oem ones? I thought a little more height might be in order! Is a better hinge warranted or even available?
