Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable Social Group

Today i listened to the GT5000 with an V D Hul Crimson element. On a Dutch Hifi Show with all Yamaha components. Price of the table €7.800,00 sorry €5.000,00 i mean and Hul €4.200,00. Sounds good but can not really compare how it compares to the GT2000. It is higher then the GT2000 and nicer feets.

Tracking estimate is for the Artisan Fidelity YGT-1 platters to arrive Tuesday, Nov 19th. Considering that the platters were packed two to a package and shipped UPS ground, the wait is particularly excruciating.

I'll post photos as soon as the packages arrive.

Anxiously awaiting the action shots. I'm sure they look even better in person.

Yeah, seconding Theo’s comments above, well done Mark.

I hope they upgrade the Sonics on your fine turntable.

I will be very interested to hear your thoughts on the merits of each type of platter Copper vs stainless steel.

Not going to lie. I'm super jazzed to see those new platters and know the anticipation would be killing me after all of the time and effort expended. Wishing Mark a smooth delivery!

The platters have arrived and I've unpacked the two that were packed on the bottom of the boxes (both ss). No damage to either and I've got one on the GT-2000.

I weighed the ss platter I bought from the eBay seller and one of the Artisan Fidelity ss platters.

Both weigh 36lbs.

I haven't unboxed the other 2 platters, one of which is the copper platter.

Great news Mark I hope you’re enjoying your GT-2000 even more. You,Theo and Arkay are truely moving into uncharted GT territory (outside of Japan). Look forward to hearing your thoughts once you have time.

So: I take it for granted that the stock GT 2000 hasn't self-destructed due to the added weight of these platters? No other adjustment necessary? Just fit and play?

I'd love to see plots of Wow and Flutter(edit: and Rumble) taken of the turntable with all different platters. There are a few posters on other sites who seem to think that the GT 2000X with its uprated motor spindle is the turntable for the heavier platters. I've tried telling them that the heavier platter was a GT 2000 series accessory for 3 years prior to the introduction of the 2000X. The(always the same individuals) confused have repeated this assertion more than once.

I actually cannot think of another TOTL direct drive where there is an optional 40 pound platter. As we all know the TOTL Micro Seiki belt drives had an assortment of possible platters. Not so many Direct Drives fit that bill.

I have hundreds of hours on the GT-2000 with the stainless steel platter sourced from the eBay fabricator. It still runs dead quiet and ramps up to speed in a few seconds just like it did the first time after installing the SS platter.

Mark:

What technique do you use to man-handle the platters onto and off the turntable? I mean when you are removing and placing the platters onto or off the bare spindle.
I loop my index fingers through bolts (pictured below) threaded into the platter, lift the platter to chest height, move close to the left front side of the turntable and then slowly lower the platter (looking through the center hole to guide the platter) until it's placed onto the spindle.

I sold my GT-2000 last week I still have my GT-2000X which came with the two copper wing-nuts in the below picture I went to Bunnings hardware store last Friday and measured the wing-nuts using the Bunnings measurement chart and the M10 were a perfect fit - I purchased a spare pair for the new owner ($5) and they fit perfectly. We used them to remove his platter for safe transport.

Hi Theo just note the thread on the original GT copper wing nuts runs about 5 turns the Bunnings wing nut threads run about 12 turns. The GT-2000 platter thread goes only around 5 turns too.
