greatest rock frontman ever.

Anybody ever seen Jack White? Best of this age.

I've seen the White Stripes (at a festival), and on the same day Jack White was blown off the stage by;

Hank Von Helvete from Turbonegro
Nick Royale from the Hellacopters
Roman Tucker from Rocket Science
Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs

I wont comment on those I havent seen (Morrison, Jagger, Bon), but from those I've seen

Iggy Pop, John Spencer and Tex Perkins (Beasts of Bourbon)

I think my vote would go to Syd Barrett (before he blew his mind) He just really just played his heart out without all kinds of overdone showman crap.

The best one today I would have to say would be Jesse Lacy from Brand New. I saw them live twice and was completely blow away both times, just amazing. He also is a no nonsense frontman, which I guess is what I like......

phil lynott from thin lizzy... bon scott from ac/dc and.............................................. ALEX HARVEY! what a nut!

There is very little in the way of consensus here, perhaps because everybody has a slightly different definition of "frontman". Some interesting proposals, and a lot that I have never heard of...so I'll throw out my own nomination, based on sheer showmanship: Fee Waybill of the Tubes! Costumes, choreography, a smokin' band, set-changes, satire, video screens (in the mid-70's, an innovation), foot-high platform boots and a scantily-clad woman on a trapeze...what more could you want?

My votes are for Hughie Thomasson of the Outlaws and Jim Dandy Mangrum from Black Oak Arkansas. Both polar opposites in that Jim infected the crowd with his 'outgoing, ha, ha' demeanor and Hughie with his tremedous command of the band. Also, Hughie would take half a step forward, lower his head and blow you away with his beautiful playing. Somehow Hughie made you feel that they were all their playing for you personally.

Exactly!!

It`s crazy that the #1 "frontie" has not yet been mentioned.. Rob Halford was, and still IS, the greatest !! #2 in my book is Bruce Dickinson... He`s got the same "better than ever, and I give it ALL *EVERY* time for my fans attitude" as Rob has... #3 .. .. Ronnie James Dio is also in their league... Not many others are, I think! ;)

These 3 are as good STILL, as they ever was... and the bands they play in are also, 3 decades down the road.... at LEAST as good as they were back then...

see them live and deciede(deceide?) no deciede (?) for yourselves

No argument here!

I gotta put in my vote for Jimi Haha and Rob Halford, oh, and Paul Rodgers (in this revived thread)

Handsome Dick Manitoba, the once roadie and then frontman for CBGB legends, the Dictators and Peter Zaremba of the Fleshtones. Both groups are still semi-active, so catch em while you can.

Jagger would be runner up. Johnny Rotten has his niche.

As much as I love the Doors and GnR, I would DQ both Morrison and Axl. Their unpredictablility was the ruin of many a gig. Great frontmen do not do that.

This is where I wonder what the real definition of the front man is... Bon was one of the best, but if you get right down to it, back then, Angus was the life of the stage, as he still is today...

The same could be said about Keith Moon.
