Yamaha GT-2000 Turntable Social Group

It could be that they bailed but I understood him to say you must pay first to get on the list? I don’t have a Paypal account so I use my daughters. Have to get the funds and go from there, don’t know for certain that he’ll hold it me but if not I’ll get the next one. The unit is on his web site complete with a yal-1. What about a power supply or a transformer?

No, you pay to hold the item for purchase. The wait list is free. Look several posts back and you'll see which power supply to get. That can be safely purchased through Yahoo JP auction via a proxy such as shopping mall japan (SMJ) or From Japan. Buyee is questionable and does not deserve our business.

Ok buyee is one I’ve been dealing with and very questionable! Couldn’t hifido hook me up with a power supply, When I get the table from him?

Only if they have an original YOP-1 in stock. They will only ship goods that you buy directly from them. There are many other proxies available. When I had to call Shopping Mall Japan one time, there was actually a guy in the US that answered the phone and he was extremely helpful.

It seems as though I’ve placed an order with hifido and that’s how you get started! Waiting on further instructions to send payment.

Well It seems as though I wasn’t on the list or didn’t follow through with the purchase on time and someone else scarfed up the GT

I never heard back from them after the first time they responded, so maybe they didn’t receive my request to purchase the table! I did it wrong, now I see you have to place the order and make an effort to pay.

My transaction was somewhat challenging with them as well. My email name didn't exactly match my credit card name, which gave them pause. Then when my credit card company denied a huge charge from a small hifi shop halfway around the world, that give them even more pause.

My understanding of the Japanese culture is that it's very "rules" oriented and coloring outside the lines is beaten out of them at an early age :-). You will have to follow their process and instructions exactly or you will be "politely ignored" as the phrase goes.

Hang in there though...it will be worth it!

The first time I made a purchase with Hifido, it locked up my card and I had to call the bank to unlock it. I promptly sent Mr. Kurohiji (former owner and web sales guy before Oikawa assumed this role) an email and he said he
would try it again. This pretty much became a routine with future purchases but as long as I kept them informed it was never an issue. Now they are slick enough that they can send you a payment link which would have made
my life easier before. But yes staying within the lines is still absolutely the Japanese SOP.

I always find the purchasing system with Hi-Fi Do strange, where you click on an item, give them your card details and hope you've bought it and then receive an email the next morning to say "bad luck - you were the third person to buy it!". They've only given me advanced notification of anything once, when I missed out on four items in very short succession and I think they felt sorry for me, so agreed to let me know in advance when they next had a Sony PS-X9 coming in! (As an aside, they duly did and I got it for a good price as it was faulty and they were unable to fix it).

They are still lovely people to deal with, though, and their packaging is second to none.

Sorry, I think that was me ;)
I've been communicating with them with gmail, no problem. Been in touch with them for probably about a year before finally committing to a GT-2000 with the YAL-1. Also scored a YOP-1 from them a week ago. Can't wait for the table to arrive...

Well that’s cool that a member scarfed it. I’m kinda on the fence about one now knowing I won’t be happy with the pressboard plinth without a veneer, I want to build my own plinth for sure.

Hello

Sorry for my absence of late... had gear issues, tube failure in my integrated amplifier and speaker swap. So critical listening has not been ideal.

I did want to point out due to the weight of the deck and platter mixed in with some impatience
I did not start from the base then add yop-1
then add the YGt-1. Maybe in the months ahead I’ll try that. So regrettably I don’t have a review of how these steps may or may not enhance the listener enjoyment.
In the meantime a few pictures...
Thanks to all for this fantastic club

That is for sure one of the nicest looking X's I've see pass through. You truly scored on that one. It's simply odd that as rare as they are, some of the most visibly abused GT's I've seen on the Yahoo JP auctions have been X's. It's as though
they've sat in a shed or garage with a hole in the roof for decades that occasionally doubled as a sumo wrestler's practice space. But when they are near pristine, they are angelic.

Love the PF-800 record clamp :D

The gun metal platter, is that something a third year apprentice could turn for us? I can’t see paying the asking price on the one I seen on eBay. Very nice table you have there.

Ah, that was you :)

Just plugged my Yop1 into an SDT (without it being connected to the table) and the power button doesn't stay depressed. Does this sound like a fault, or is this how it functions if it isnt connected to the table? My GT2000 arrives in a few days...

Great eye on the clamp! Yes I saved it!
My freind in Tokyo helped with waiting for the right one.

I received the stainless steel platter and have had it on the GT-2000 in my main system for about 10 days. The SS platter doesn't seat perfectly on the spindle which allows a tiny amount of play so it can lean slightly to the side. I'll be sending it back to the fabricator along with a stock aluminum platter so he can adjust the fit.

Regarding the fit of the platter to the spindle, I've got a GT-2000 and GT-2000L and have swapped the stock aluminum platters between them and both platters fit perfectly on either turntable. The stock platter seats so precisely on the spindle that it virtually locks into place. When removing the aluminum platter from the spindle it requires some additional force beyond lifting its weight to pull it free and it makes the metallic equivalent of a sucking sound as it pulls free of the spindle. The SS steel platter lifts free of the spindle without any effort beyond lifting it's ~36lbs, and there is no noise as it lifts free of the spindle.

I've listened to the GT-2000 with SS platter extensively and switched between the SS platter and the aluminum platter playing the same piece of music. I prefer the SS platter. IMO it makes a bigger difference than the external power supply.

And now some photos of the SS platter:

Thanks for the report Mark.

Given that the SS platter seems to grip the spindle somewhat less than the stock platter, is the clearance between the bottom of the SS platter and the plinth the same as the stock platter?
The clearance is not noticeably different.
