Worst cover ever?

Listening to some Friday p.m. jams, I think I just played the worst cover ever recorded -- Brownsville Station covering "Sweet Jane." I think my speakers were about to hurl.

Any offerings for worst covered song?

For me its "sweet dreams" as performed by Marylin Manson...

I heard that on the radio way back when and it was the first Manson song i'd ever heard....

Totally ruined all future songs by him for me... Never gave him a chance that cover threw me so badly.

I cant think of any one in particular but I have heard many bad ones.
There's just some songs that should never be covered, one comes to mind, American Woman. The Guess Who is a band who's songs cannot be covered properly. No offense to Lenny but I'm not a fan. So I'll vote for that one as a bad one.

Speaking of Sweet Jane covers one of the ones I do like is the Cowboy Junkies version. In fact I love Margo's sultry voice so much I prefer it to Lou's version. She is a gem to be sure.

I think William Shatner holds the worst cover record for "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds".

The Nice's cover of Bob Dylan's "My Back Pages" from their posthumously released 1971 album Elegy is pretty wretched.

I don't know about the worst (although I have to agree with the Shatner LITSWD suggestion), but the BEST cover of all time is the New Riders of the Purple Sage's version of Dead Flowers.

Yup, that one is pretty close. What makes it so bad is that they were probably capable of doing a really nice cover. Sounds like it was done after a hard night.
