What do Jensens sound like? I am most curious about those vintages. I have never auditioned them myself. I would love to hear them out.

One of the wires slipped out of the nut on C1. Found it right after I posted. the 2nd XO worked right off the bat.

They're running in right now.

Were the baffles originally removable, or is that a mod?

Several members have inquired as to their suitability for E'Waving, including one from Columbia.

Removeable, you betcha. An easy mod.

3.25 cubic feet. Perfect for woofage if a little short - plays to your knees.

New baffles are on the slate for Saturday, plus some additional bracing, extra fiberglass. The waveguide should fit just fine.

Enough to move forward with them, certainly.

I haven't really been able to audition them for more than a couple minutes at a time...tonight I should get an hour or so.
 
Seems Altec and JBL cabinets are getting the most E'Wave upgrade action.

Members have worked with Altec Valencia, Seville, Santana, and Madrid so far.

JBLs, we've seen C36, S99, L26, MR, L112, L44, 4507....
 
This sounds like an off the topic kinda question. But please allow me. I really am curious to know what would be an ideal amp to drive the waveguides. I am driving them with mere 14watts per side tube amps. And I am wondering if solid state amp with more power will be better. Just a thought.
 
Your woofer sensitivity defines how much power is required.

Tubes vs. SS is a matter of personal preference.

You can biamp using both, even, if desired.

Many options with E'Wave.... :yes:

Your more then likely going to find people on both sides of the fence.
(As Zilch said it's a personal preference thing, I have no problem with either)

For me if my speakers "let" me run tubes then I run tubes, I build my own home/diy
tube amps an generally run between 10-30 wpc, when I use speakers that have a
sensitivty of roughly 90db or higher, a fairly benine impeadance curve and a xover
that isn't to complex I find my tube amps work rather well and prefer there sound.

Part of it for me is being able to use amps I build, latley it's been very simple circuits.

If your looking to completly rock out an no compression your probably going to want
a big ol solid state amp, there are some great sounding ones out there.
 
YEP!

Keep in mind the woofer (because this 2-way setup) also produces midrange with most of
the vocal content that whatever amp you run on the woofer should be a quality amp, not
just doing bass duty here in this setup. (not that you should ever run a bad quality amp)..:)
 
I, not a fan of modern horn speakers, have been lurking this project out of curiosity and having a spot for an efficient decent sounding speaker system for a ca 8-10W P/P vt amp in a 1939 Sig Corps Hammarlund Super Pro 210X commo reciever. I also have a pair of PIONEER CS-R300 2-way speakers that are pretty sonically useless to me as-is (you hook 'em up, sound squirts out, so what) that may be candidates for an econo-wave upgrade. They attempted to couple a 1" horn tweet to a 10" woof and the midrange is pretty lame from this combo. I don't care for the result regardless, it's just another mediocre period speaker in no way sonically comparable to something like a contemporary 2-way AR. Their virtue is unusually good solid build with heavy ply and walnut veneer and fairly decent efficiency.

Looks like the port would have to be moved to replace the tweet with the waveguide & driver pot. I wish they had deeper low end extension but they are what they are.

I don't actually need 2 and this config isn't my cuppa for serious stereo listening. However a pair off mono will do a much better job of floating a sonic image in open space than a single with the sound just coming out of a box. I'd also have a relatively efficient stereo pair for other lo-output projects. The deal is, without actually hearing the result, how do I know it's worth the time and expense.
Question to you all with better smarts and more experience is whether this mod reworking appears to be a reasonable worthwhile project for the stated objectives or just leave them as-is and consider finding a single with efficient woof potential for the reciever if I'm going to go this route, rather than, say, a high-efficiency near-full-range paper cone approach, and do just one E-wave cab for the mono reciever.
